Taxes
According to The Tax Foundation Illinois residents worked for the government last year until April 23rd. That was Tax Freedom Day. The total Cost of Government Day in Illinois, according to Americans for Tax Reform, was July 16th. That’s the day that you stop toiling to pay for government and actually get to keep what you earn. Only fifteen states work longer for government than Illinoisans do.
The Illinois Alliance for Growth works from proposition that it is both your money and your government. You should not have to work until April to pay your taxes and the middle of July to pay your taxes and suffer the economic consequences of a government that is too big, too expensive and too wasteful.
In the United States sovereignty lies with the people who consent to be governed. Did you consent to a “Bridge to Nowhere?” Did anyone consult you when government condemned some small business owner’s property so government could turn it over to a private developer willing to put more money into government’s coffers? How about all those “services” government provides you? How many of those have you used lately?
If you answered no and not many to these questions then you should join the Illinois Alliance for Growth and help us stop any and all tax increases and begin rolling back the fees and taxes crippling our state and national economy.
Taxes are the means by which government can interfere with our lives. By standing on the hose we can cut the supply of money flowing into Springfield and Washington. By not consenting to higher taxation we can return government to the people and hold it accountable.
The Illinois Alliance for Growth, with people like you who belong to our network, will accomplish that goal by doing the following:
- Oppose any and all tax increases unless it is a dire, catastrophic emergency that threatens the existence of our state or nation.
- Work to reduce the tax burden at the state and federal level.
- Provide information to members they need to pressure legislators and other public officials. And;
- Educate policy makers, the general public and the media on the economic benefits of tax relief and the economic costs of higher taxes on individuals and businesses.
